- גּוֹבַאי, גּוֹבַייm. (b. h. גּוֹב; גּוֹבַי, גבה, cmp. גִּבֵּהַ) (the hump-backed, gobay, a species of edible locusts. Ber.VI, 3. Sabb.32b. Y.Taan.I, end, 64b שני דברים … וג׳ two calamities, drought and locusts. Ib. III, 66d (homiletic etymology) why it is called גוביי? דו גבי דינאוכ׳ because it collects the (fines of) judgment of the Lord.
